While many people open their homes and hearts to animals in need, sadly, some owners abandon their pets, leaving them to survive on the streets. Among all dog breeds, Pit Bulls have earned the reputation of being the most vicious, a stereotype that results from human mistreatment. However, not all Pit Bulls deserve this stereotype. Lakita, a Pit Bull, is one dog fighting hard to challenge this negative image.

One day, a woman came across a dog sleeping on a trash pile. The dog was a Pit Bull covered in mange, and she could barely move. The woman discovered that the dog also had a horrible smell. The woman decided to act and called animal services to save the dog’s life.

When the rescuers arrived, they found a dog in a terrible physical state and knew they had to do everything in their power to help. One of the rescuers, Tracy, said, “Oh, she smells like she’s rotting from the inside out.” This comment reveals just how much pain the dog was feeling.

The rescuers named the dog Lakita and brought her back to their facility. Unfortunately, no one claimed her, so they knew she was alone.

Despite discovering that Lakita’s condition was deplorable, they still provided her with medical treatment and small portions of food. To everyone’s surprise, Lakita started gaining weight.

The pain that Lakita was going through caused her to hide her vibrant personality. However, once her rescuers showed her safety and love, she began to show her true colors. Dogs’ personalities can change drastically when they have loving owners and are treated with care. Despite Lakita going through a challenging period, she began to show her resilience.

Tracy decided to take Lakita home to take care of her for some time. Once she started feeling better, they knew it was time to find the perfect family for her. The rescuers dressed up Lakita and took pictures of her so that people could see her story.
Soon enough, a loving family with three human siblings adopted Lakita. Today, Lakita has a forever home with humans who love her unconditionally.

Lakita’s story is a remarkable example of a dog’s resilience and the importance of rescuing needy animals. Many dogs are waiting for their forever homes, and with love and care, they can find the same happiness as Lakita.
